NUT Omala Gets New Chairman

Mr. Danmusa Alfa has emerged as the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in an election held on the 14th day of May, 2013 after securing over 95% of the total vote cast.

Comrade Jato who presided over the election commended the teachers for their peaceful conduct, which made the process successful, adding that it is a sign of greater things to come in the union. Comrade Jato, who is one of the State Executive officers of the union, also charged members of the union to cooperate and work in unison with the elected members to enable the union achieve its goals.

In his speech shortly after he was announced as winner, Mr. Danmusa expressed gratitude to God and appreciated the teachers who considered him worthy to pilot the affairs of the union, attributing his victory to their collective cooperation and support, promising not to let them down. He further appealed to all teachers in Omala to embrace and show enthusiasm toward NUT as it is the only platform that provides the opportunity for them to express their grievances. He assured them of the union’s readiness to accommodate constructive criticisms and advice devoid of malice and hatred, assuring them of free access to his office.

The outgoing chairman, Comrade Eleojo Akawe Reuben, commended the teachers for the support and cooperation he received from them while in office, and charged them to sustain the tempo to enable the incoming chairman succeed. He expressed delight over successful transition noting that the union has achieved some feats in the area of teachers’ welfare but added that much still desires to be done, charging the incoming chairman to give utmost priority to the welfare of teachers.
