Nine persons are currently cooling off their heels in National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) cell in Lokoja, Kogi State for vandalising and stealing 18 rolls of communication cables valued at N5.4 million.

Parading the suspects in Lokoja, the state commandant of NSCDC, Michael Ochogwu said that  they were arrested at two locations in the city on March 18.

He said that the suspects were arrested following a tip off, saying that the stolen cables belonged to a leading  GSM service provider in the country.

Ochogwu said that the optic fibre cables were removed along Kabba-Okene Road by the suspects, stressing that his men were able to recover only three out of the 18 stolen rolls of cables as the suspects had sold the rest to a businessman based in Lagos.

The commandant said that over N100,000 was found on the suspects, saying that the money was part of proceeds they realized from the sale of some of the cables.

He said that two of the suspects were helping the organisation to track down the buyers of the cables and other accomplices now at large.
