The honour conferred on Prof Olugbemiro Jegede, Secretary to the State Government, as Emeritus Professor, of the National Open University of Nigeria, has been described as a honour well deserved.

Capt Idris Wada, Kogi State Governor, gave the commendation at the 5th convocation ceremony of the National Open University, held at the permanent site of the university in Abuja.

The governor who was represented by his deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, said Prof Jegede, has served the nation meritoriously, with great sacrifice and dedication, commended him for contributing to the immense growth of NOUN.

The governor described Prof Jegede as a pride to his administration, prayed and hope that the honor will spur him to serve the country and humanity in good health and happiness.

While congratulating him for been the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the NOUN, Wada, said his achievements for piloting the University to be of world class standard would remain indelible, said he is a pride to people and government of the state.

Capt Wada urged other citizens of the state to work towards making the state proud in all field of endeavors, the find themselves, said the state is blessed with abundant human and natural potentials.

In a remarks, Prof Olugbemiro Jegede, said the appointment is a morale booster, said it would serve as an elixer for him to contribute more to distance learning.

Prof Jegede expressed appreciation to the government of Capt Idris Wada, for the abiding faith it has in him, described the administration as one that is people centered and committed to uplifting the living standard of the people.

The 5th convocation of the NOUN witnessed the graduation of 10,653 students eight schools, with former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, graduating with a Master Degree in Christian Theology.

Udo Ukeme Effiong, graduated with the highest score in first class grade of 4.71 as the best graduating student.
A total number of fifteen students, nine males and six females graduated with first class honours.
