The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) in Kogi State has passed a vote of confidence on the Chief Medical Director, Kogi State Specialist Hospital (KSSH) Lokoja, Prof. Isah Adagiri Yahaya, including doctors working in the hospital.
The State NMA Chairman, Dr Baoku Olusola who led his executives to the office of the CMD on Thursday commended him for the great works being undertaken in the hospital such as quality service delivery and the commitment of the doctors in the hospital.
While admonishing the CMD not to be disturbed by those detractors spreading fake news, Dr Olusola emphasized that Prof Yahaya and his team of doctors have done well in the hospital and deserved to be commended by all well meaning Kogites.
He pointed out that Prof. Yahaya does not deserve to be ridiculed by a group who are enemies of State.
“We have come to identify with the CMD of Kogi State Specialist Hospital Lokoja for his laudable achievements in the State. The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Kogi as a body stands for integrity, welfare of her members and that of the citizens and inhabitants of the state. Since we came on board, we make bold to say we have no negative report about the person Prof. Isah Adagiri Yahaya and our doctors. It is on record that no patient has complain to us or in the media about the doctors and the CMD himself.
“So, it very disheartening that some individuals who should make better use of their time and resources will relegate themselves to rubbish the good image of the CMD. This is condemnable and unacceptable.
“This is why the association is still shocked to read in some online media that there are lapses in the welfare of staff, poor quality health care delivery and misuse of office funds in this hospital under his watch. We all know that this is not true. It is obvious that this is being championed by enemies of the state who do not want the best for the people of Kogi State,” he said.
He, however, commended the CMD for his role in improving the welfare of medical practitioners in the hospital.
Dr Olusola charged the CMD to speed up the process of acquisition and implementation of doctors stamp in the hospital just as he appealed to him not to be distracted by forces who are determined to drag his name in the mud.
“Ignore detractors. They are always there in any establishment but the most important thing is to remain focused on quality health care delivery in line with international standard practices,” he added.
The NMA Chairman used the visit to intimate the Kogi State Specialist Hospital boss that efforts have been put in place by the association to weed out quacks operating in the State.
Responding, Prof. Isah Adagiri Yahaya averred that he met the hospital at an unacceptable state, adding that the hospital is now wearing a new look, and is now among the best Specialist Hospitals in Nigeria.
“When I took over as the CMD, this place looks like a glorified General Hospital. Under my watch, I embarked on total transformation, which you can see today. I blocked leakages in the system and ensure that our services remains the best in this country.
“However, it is unfortunate to find some group of people who are known for causing mayhem wherever they are trying to destabilize the system.
“Because of the reform I did in the hospital some people felt very hurt. Their aim is that by all means I should be removed. This set of people are not always coming to work. They have been found wanting in alleged fraudulent activities within and outside the hospital. I remember that, there was one of them who sold drugs to patient and later pocket the money.
“This and many more were happening which immediately I swung into action by stopping them. Since I blocked their nefarious activities of milking the State of her resources, they have now resulted to cheap blackmail using faceless group of people to destroy my reputation before the world.
“I am ready to appear before any anti graft agency to prove my innocence. I want the world to know that, all the allegations are false, unfounded, baseless and a figment of the imagination of the writer or sponsor. It should be disregarded by the general public. I remain committed towards improving the service delivery of Kogi State Specialist Hospital” he stated.
