People! They see things from varying standpoint. Life’s beauty lies in dealing with our differences without discomforting those around. A world with no attributes of bittersweet is arguable illusionary. The creator created our world in different makes.
Nigeria is no way excluded from trending global phenomenon. However, the saddening reality that has continued to bedeviled us all is that we’ve had more of bitter experiences and lesser number of sweetness. Unfortunately, our sorry state was and is still self induced. Many times, issues of immediate national concern have been pushed to the background using the instrument of ethnic coloration, political insinuations and whatever.
What do i mean? Scientifically, one plus one is always equal to two irrespective of location and time. However, Nigerians have been told by a few supposed learned men and women that one plus one is equal to twenty. After all, the added zero is not of a significant consequential. What a country! A place where people fool people all of the time. Recently, Dr. Isa Pantami, a serving minister was accused of having evidential syptoms of sympathy and empathy towards a terror group. Ordinarily, such claims would have never made it to the to the public but social media brought it to the fore. Nigerians have realized the power inherent in social media. Since the case with Nigerian political brethren shun objectivism , they came out in mass to defend the honorable minister. One plus one is equal twenty remember. In their words, they say “do not nail him to the cross, the Dr has changed. Remember, he made those statement some twenty years ago”. Well, twenty years ago, he wasn’t a baby. Only babies metermophose into adults. Adults don’t become adults. They remain so. However, those on the defence insisted that those witch hunting the minister were doing so because he was trying to force all Nigerians to have a National Identification Number. The question in the minds of many is this; ” Isn’t this a replica of George Orwell’s animal farm story where some citizens are more equal than the other?” But here is a Nigeria, a country where certificate forgery is considered a greater evil compare to terror affiliation.
Without derailing, there are two instances that grossly abused the senses of many Nigerians. According to a report by vanguard newspaper with the Url; https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/12/lets-be-thankful-that-bombings-dont-happen-daily-in-nigeria-anymore-femi-adesina/ Mr. Femi Adeshina, special advicer to the President on Media and publicity said that Nigerians should be grateful to the President for ending daily bombings. In essence, we should overlook increasing incidences of banditry, terrorism and kidnappings. Again, Senior Special Assitant to The President, Garba Shehu, has lamented that the way killings are being reported under the Muhammadu Buhari-administration is as though such has never happened before. Garba Shehu explained that killings had been in existence since forever and President Buhari seems to be a target in the way it is being reported now. Again we ask ” Are suppose to keep quite and watch or shall we hold an outsider responsible?”
I laugh, nobody really cared about the president if he is doing the needful. When the President’s son got involved in a bike accident that almost cost his life, the president family’s was… How different is the life of ordinary Nigerians killed on highways, farms and in their houses…?
Technically speaking, governance is a collective mandate of citizens left in the hands of a few for the benefits of all. Look up? I do not think that there’s anyone who voted for a government that is unable to make safe our nation. On the floor of the senate, Senator Remi Tinubu preferred that Senator Smart would sit down and discuss party issues instead of crying over our fast falling security architecture. She asked “Are you one of them, are you a member of the PDP…a sheep in wolfs clothing?”. My friend Tade isn’t surprised after all her husband had adviced government to draft fifty million youths into the army.
Any one in this ship called Nigeria need not be told that until flourishing ideas are imbibed, it will only take a little bit of time before we end up in wreckage. It is very easy to accuse our leaders, however I am reminded that uneasy is the head that wears the crown. It is the desire of all that it shall be well with our leaders so that it can also be well with us all.
