The growing wave of economic hardship across Nigeria has triggered a unified call from the nation’s youth population, urging the Federal Government to take immediate and decisive action to ease their suffering.
Speaking through a public statement made available to Kogi Report News, youth advocate and political analyst Edison Atumeyi Edime decried the worsening living conditions faced by millions of young Nigerians, describing the situation as “an economic emergency demanding urgent national response.”
“Across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, the average Nigerian youth is struggling to survive. The price of food, transportation, and basic needs has skyrocketed beyond reach. We are calling on the government to prioritize youth welfare, job creation, and economic inclusion,” Edime stated.
He emphasized that the strength of Nigeria’s economy lies not merely in its natural resources, but in the creativity, innovation, and energy of its youth, who continue to drive entrepreneurship and digital transformation despite overwhelming challenges.
Edime further appealed for a new social contract between the leadership and the citizens — one built on accountability, fairness, and opportunity.
“We can no longer remain silent while the pulse of our nation’s youth beats in pain. The Nigerian youth demand an economy that works for all, not just for the privileged few,” he added.
The statement has continued to gain attention from youth organizations, civil society actors, and policy observers who insist that without immediate intervention, the nation risks losing its most productive generation to frustration, poverty, and despair.
