Chairman, Senate Committee on Information and Communication Technology/Cybercrime, Senator Yakubu Oseni has felicitated with Nigerians on the occasion of the 60th independence celebration of the nation.
Senator Oseni who is representing Kogi Central Senatorial District said in his 60th year independence day celebration message that Nigerians have every course to celebrate our nationhood even if it is dotted with challenges.
The lawmaker who reminisced that though for the past 60 years, Nigeria has journeyed through various phases of nationhood even amidst challenges that seemed to threaten her unity, reiterated that no developed nation of the world has been totally devoid of internal wranglings.
He, however, expressed excitement that Nigerians’ uniqueness and determination which are usually displayed in times of national challenges, has made the country and her leadership to always weather the storm and prevail on all issues bothering on national development.
According to him, “Nigeria, no doubt has continued to maintain her pride as the Giant of Africa considering the pace of economic, political, social and technological advancement that both past and present leaders have made since independence on 1st October, 1960.
“As the Chairman, Senate Committee on Information and Communication Technology/Cybercrime, I commend the preparedness of our nation to always keep abreast of breakthroughs made in the area of digital and technological sector just as I use this opportunity to call on the government to do more on the improvement of digital infrastructure across the country.
“Our recent oversight visits across Federal Government’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) where my team assessed their cyber architecture leaves us with the conclusion that Nigeria is in line with global pace in the world of ICT,” he said.
Senator Oseni while urging Nigerian youths to be cautious of their activities on cyberspace, emphasized the need for consolidation of the sweat of Nigeria founding fathers who he said have laboured very hard to build and bequeath the nation to the present generation.
“I therefore use this opportunity to congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President, Distinguished Senator Ahmed Lawan, Speaker of the Nigeria House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and the entire members of the National Assembly.
“Also, I heartily congratulate Governor Yahaya Bello and members of his cabinet, my wonderful constituents and all Nigerians for being amongst history makers for posterity,” the lawmaker said.
