An NGO, Folorunsho Olafemi Foundation (FOF) on Saturday, distributed food items and clothing materials to over 250 vulnerable widows across the three local government areas (LGAs) in Yagba Federal Constituency of Kogi State.
Speaking to newsmen at the distribution venue in Mopa, Engr. Folorunsho Olafemi, the Founder of FOF, said over 250 indigent widows had been impacted across yagba federal constituency which include: Yagba West, Yagba East and Mopamuro LGAs.
Olafemi explained that the initiative was borne out of his passion to alleviate the suffering of the vulnerable people especially widows in Yagba land, and putting smile on their faces.
The philanthropist added that the NGO in collaboration with his partner friends, had recently empowered 12 youths across Yagba land with business grant ranging from N100,000 to N300,000 depending on their chosen businesses.
He reiterated his commitment and that of his friends who were co-sponsors of the outreach, to continue to impact the lives of the less privilege people in the society.
Also speaking, the Assistant Coordinator, FOF, Mr Barnabas Henry, noted that in 2019, the NGO was able to empower 75 women in Mopamuro LGA, comprising 35 widows and 40 petty traders.
”This year to the glory of God, we have been able to reach out to 250 widows in three LGAs of yagba federal constituency in Kogi west senatorial district.
”Today, we have attended to 80 widows in Mopamuro; on Wednesday, we reached out to 90 in Yagba West; and on Tuesday, we attended to 80 widows in Yagba East.
”Making a total of 250 widows the NGO has impacted across Yagba land. We gave each beneficiary a bag of semo (10kg), a pack of maggi and Ankara clothing material, among others”, Henry said.
Henry added that the NGO had awarded scholarships to indigent students, donated sporting tools to schools, and paid medical bills of some indigent patients worth over One million naira this year 2020.
The co-sponsors were: Mr. Keji Giwa, Mr. Oluseyi Daniels, and Mr. Tayo Fida who are friends of Olafemi, assured of their continuous support for the NGO in reaching out to the less privilege in the society.
In their separate goodwill messages, the royal fathers in the area; the Elulu of Mopa, Oba Funsho Julius Joledo; and the Alamuro of Amuro, Oba Alfred Modupe Aiyedogbon, commended the NGO for the gesture and urged the women to continually support and pray for its founder, Engr. Folorunsho Olafemi.
Oba Joledo thanked Olafemi and his friends for the initiative and for reaching out to the vulnerable people at the grassroots especially the widows.
Oba Aiyedogbon commended Olafemi for following Scriptural ordinances in helping the widows and the fatherless children.
The traditional ruler stressed that anybody that help the widow and the less privileged would surely receive the favour and mercy of God.
The royal fathers jointly called on other well to do individuals in the area to emulate the same gesture by alleviating the suffering of the vulnerable people in the society.
Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs Mary Oladipo, Alice Balogun, Alice Osho, and Janet Abe, poured encomium on Olafemi and prayed God to bless and protect him and his entire household.
Earlier, Engr Olafemi led his friends on a courtesy visit to the Elulu of Mopa in his palace, where the monarch appreciated their coming, and promised to give some portions of land free of charge to Olafemi’s friends to build houses and also established business in Mopa.
Oba Joledo assured that the people of Mopa had accepted Olafemi’s friends as indigene of the community.
