Newly Appointed FTH Lokoja Board Chairman, Nze Chidi Duru Pays Maiden Visit to Facility on March 26

In a move aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of the institution’s operations and charting a course for improved healthcare delivery, Nze Chidi Duru, the newly appointed Board Chairman of the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja (FTHL), would embarked on a maiden visit to the facility on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

It would be recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on January 9, 2025, announced the appointed board chairpersons for 42 federal organisations in which Nze Chidi Duru, from Anambra State, was appointed as Board Chairman of FTHL.

The appointments was with immediate effect.

Following the appointment, series of meetings had been held between the CMDs/MDs, Minister for Health and Social Welfare and the appointed Chairmen.

At the recent meeting, held on March 19, 2025, it was collectively agreed that the Board Chairmen can begin to carry out their statutory functions without delay.

Hence, the need for the new Board Chairman of FTHL, Nze Chidi Duru, to pay a maiden working visit to FTHL, for familiarization with the management and staff of the hospital.

One of the FTHL staff, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said the mood in the hospital had changed as the management and staff are eager to receive their August visitor.

“The mood in the hospital has changed as their seem to be palpable elation and excitement as to the imminent arrival of the Board Chairman and the hospital community looks forward to progress and development under the chairman,” she said.

The FTHL board chairman, Nze Chidi Duru, is a member of the National Working Committee of the All Progressive Congress (APC). He is a man with proven track records of success and a devoted leader.

The mospital management is responsible for day-to-day running of the hospital under supervision of the board.

The role of the Board goes beyond sittings and/or meetings but more importantly includes setting standards of care and training for the Hospital Management to implement.

The Board is responsible along with the representatives of the Ministry and the Federal Character Commission, and after obtaining approval of the Ministry, for shortlisting and conduction of interview in the process of appointment of new CMDs/MDs.

The three names so selected will then be forwarded to the Honourable Minister who will make recommendations to the President for the appointment.
