Member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, Hon. Salman Idris, has congratulated the people of Bunu Kingdom on this year’s celebration of the new yam festival.
In a statement from his media office, Hon. Salman said the new yam festival, celebrated on July 7th every year across the entire Bunu communities, is symbolic as it showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Bunu people.
He said the new yam festival also signifies the beginning of abundance, which marks the end of hunger in the land.
The lawmaker expressed his solidarity with the farmers who defied the odds of insecurity to continue the age-long practice of farming in Bunu land, producing food for the people.
Hon. Salman said he has so far distributed over 600 bags of fertilizer, hundreds of chemicals, sprayers, and thousands of palm seedlings to the farmers, and he will continue to do his best to encourage them.
On the issue of insecurity, he said a lot of work is being put in place by the state government to ensure that the issue of insecurity becomes a thing of the past in Bunu land, and he urged the citizens to cooperate with the government and security agencies by giving useful information for a quick resolution of the problem, so as to boost food production and create a peaceful environment for business to thrive.
