NDLEA Arrest 106 Suspects, Seizes 3,249.3kg Of Cannabis In Kogi

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in Kogi, arrested 106 suspects and seized 3, 249kg of cannabis sativa (Indian Hemp) between January and October this year.

 

 

Alhaji Idris Bello, Commander of the agency in the state, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Lokoja while parading seven suspects arrested between September and October.

 

 

He said that the men were arrested in connection with illegal possession of cannabis sativa and other prohibited drugs.

 

 

He said that 3,113.1kg of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp was seized between January and August this year while 136.2 kg of the drug was seized from September to date.

 

 

Among the seven suspects paraded was 20-year-old Lucky Ekeinde from Uzeba in Owan West Local Government of Edo State arrested with 189 packets of cannabis.

 

 

Bello said that the cannabis, weighing 126 kg was neatly concealed in the boot of a Honda Accord marked Lagos AAA 845 CL.

 

Ekeinde, who claimed to be an errand boy of the owner of the car and the consignment, said the driver and “Oga” escaped when they ran into the NDLEA men but he was caught.

 

Also paraded was 35-year-old Timothy Wada, from Ogane-Enugu in Dekina Local Government of Kogi, who was arrested with two wraps of cannabis and a pistol.

 

Danladi Ibrahim, 30, suspected dealer in cannabis, was arrested in Idah, also in Kogi.

 

Abdulazeez Kassim, 22, from Kumbotso in Kano State, was also paraded with 8kg of cannabis while Moses Maiyaki, 35, from Oguma in Bassa Local Government was arrested with 1 kg of the substance.

 

A self-confessed cannabis farmer, Hassan Musa, from Ogane-Igah, Olamaboro Local Government of Kogi, who owned six plots of Indian hemp plantation at Iloko village in Ankpa LGA was also arrested.

 

Bello said that some of the suspects, arrested between January and August, were prosecuted on completion of investigation while others were counseled and released.

 

The commander appealed to the state government to assist the command with logistics to combat the menace.
