The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) is training 30 women on how to use adire materials to make ladies shoe and bag in Kogi State.
Flaging-off the training, yesterday, in Lokoja, the NDE Director General, Mallam Abubakar Muhammed, said the agency has earlier trained women on event management, interior decoration, bead and dress making and tie and dye, adding that 10 out of the 30 women shall be empowered to establish their own businesses.
Malam Muhammed who was represent by the Director, Small Scale Enterprise in the agency, Jibrin Aye, said the cardinal objective of NDE was to create employment with emphasis on self-reliance and entpreneurship development, explaining that women were targeted because of their vulnerability to poverty.
He called on other stakeholders, corporate bodies and well meaning individuals to support the NDE in resettling the remaining trained 20 women, commending Governor Idris Wada for his support in the efforts to provide employment and reduce poverty in the state.
Mallam Muhammed advised beneficiaries of NDE loans to repay the loan so that others can also benefit.
Earlier, the Kogi State NDE Coordinator, Mallam Abdul Ibrahim Ndaman, said the agency decided to train women on use of adire material to produce bag and shoe because it is the current trend in fashion industry.
He charged the participants to be serious with the training, saying that the knowledge acquired will enable them to either start or expand their business and train others.
