…commends Chief Ben Olowodola, KDU
The National Directorate of Employment has graduated 120 trainees who have acquired trainings in seven different vocations in Kabba centre over the weekend.
The training which took place at the Youth Empowerment and Skill Acquisition Centre, Kabba (YESACK), a centre single handily built and donated to Kabba community in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, north central Nigeria through the Kabba Development Union by a successful business mogul and community leader, Chief Benjamin Olowodola at a cost of over one hundred million naira.
Speaking at the event, the Kogi State Coordinator of National Directorate of Employment, Mallam Ibrahim Ndaman commended the community association for initiating such a gigantic project and also Chief Olowodola for his kind gesture in partnering with the government in reducing unemployment in the country.
He said it is not common to find a man with such a large heart to reach out to people and humanity in such a manner, urging other well meaning individuals in the country to emulate the kind gesture of Olowodola.
According to him, in view of the paucity of funds and the dearth of white collar jobs in the country, Mr. Ndaman advised unemployed graduates and youths to key into the skill acquisition programmes of the Directorate.
While charging the graduates to practice with all seriousness the trades they acquired in the centre, he reiterated the needlessness of depending on white collar jobs where there are diverse alternatives.
Earlier, the President General of Kabba Development Union, Mr Molo Olorunfemi, who said the idea of the centre was conceived by Union in 2008 with a total budget of five million naira but upgraded the budget to 15million naira by Olowodola, praising him for making the centre a reality, just as he enjoined the graduates to be good ambassadors of the centre and shun violent tendencies that could scare away investors from Kabba and Kogi State.
Olorunfemi appealed to NDE to increase the number of training in-take, noting that the facilities on ground in the centre are more than enough to carter for 300 to 500 students.
In separate remarks, the Obadofin of Kabba, His Royal Highness, Oba Michael Yusuf and the donor of the skill acquisition centre, Chief Olowodola who was represented by former Commissioner for Finance, Dr Stephen Olorunfemi, lauded the initiative of KDU in conceiving the idea and that of the donor who made it a reality, noting that the step would go a long way to reduce criminal tendencies in the community as more of the youths are henceforth gainfully engaged.
Dr. Olorunfemi paid special tribute to the former President General, of Kabba Development Union, Mr Samuel Olobatoke, aka Happy Sam of under whose tenure the project was conceived and Chief Adekunle Ducan who was the Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the Launching program, both of blessed memories, noting that they are no longer alive today but their giant contributions towards the realisation of the project is highly commendable and cannot go unnoticed.
Highlights of the event was the presentation of Testimonial to the 120 trainees graduated in seven different skills and vocations which include Tailoring and Fashion Design, Hair Dressing, Catering, Wielding, Electrical, Furniture and Carpentry as well as Computer Training and its repairs.
