The Kogi state command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested a suspected fake military officer, Daniel Gayus, who has been using army uniforms to commit crimes.

He was apprehended while stealing phones from a trader’s shop in Egbogogo, Adavi local government area of Kogi state on Tuesday.

It was later confirmed that Gayus was dismissed from the Nigerian Army in 2019 but still parading himself as a military officer to extort people and have a shield for his evil acts.

Reacting, the Executive Chairman of Adavi local government council, Hon. Joseph Omuya Salami commended the efforts of the Civil Defence Corps and urged security personnel in Adavi to always handle issues professionally.

“We are up to the task and I believe so much that God and the good people of Adavi will continue to be on our side for the progress of our communities.

“We are so much concerned about the wellbeing and security of our people, and we will not pay attention to distractions that intends to rubbish our hard-earned reputation and the good work we have been doing,” he said.

Salami warned criminals impersonating security agents to desist as the council will not rest until all criminals are apprehended.

Gayus will be officially handed over to the Police Force for further investigation and prosecution.
