A fact-finding team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has visited the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi State to ascertain the level of practical coverage for programmes run in the School of Engineering.

NBTE had recently placed a temporary ban on admission into all courses in the School of Engineering following a petition it received from a student of the institution, alleging that there was not enough practical coverage.

Leader of the 8-man fact finding team, Isa Sulaiman, said they were at the institution on an assessment of laboratory facilities and to obtain other relevant data that would enable the board ascertain the veracity of the petition it received.

He said their mandate is strictly to gather relevant information from the School of Engineering and report back to the board which will in turn peruse the data and make a conclusive pronouncement over the temporary ban placed on the school.

“We have gone round the laboratories and what we have seen so far is okay, but these are not the only things we need to assess. We are gathering other data from the departments and like I said, it is only the board that will make a conclusive pronouncement after submission of our findings,” he said.

On his part, rector of the polytechnic, Dr Matthew Akpata, expressed gratitude to NBTE fact-finding teams, saying its findings would enable the institution know the areas it needed to improve upon to ensure better teaching and learning.
