The Okene branch of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has raised concern over the spate of kidnapping and general insecurity in Kogi Central Senatorial district.

NBA branch chairman in the area, Barrister Amechi Obiechina, in a statement issued yesterday described the situation as “worrisome and scary”, calling on security agencies to tackle the development.

The body particularly expressed worries over the recent abduction of a High Court judge and another member of the association, Barrister Anthony Eghieye, by unknown gunmen along the Okene-Ajaokuta road.

The statement noted that the NBA recently met with the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Alhaji Ado Ibrahim, and appealed to him on the need to sensitize his subjects to expose criminal elements in their midst in order to address the menace.
The NBA, while commending the security agencies and the Kogi State government for efforts in addressing insecurity, called for redeployment of security personnel that have overstayed in the area and recruitment of indigenous vigilantes to help secure the area.
It expressed its readiness to give whatever support needed in order to address the challenge of insecurity bedevilling the area.
