- Solution To Bad Governance Better Than Destructive Protest
Segun Babayomi Amupitan, National President, North Central and Abuja Youth Development Association (NAYODA), speaks on scheduled August protests christened “hunger protests” ahoying responsible youths of the North Central geopolitical zone and Abuja, to rather support President Bola Tinubu’s government to succeed through brainstorming and offering strategies that can be authoritatively explored for transformation of the country as a developed united nation.
He also, enjoined President Tinubu to open all international borders with the country, and fixed prices of commodities in order to imprison ideology of market initiatives in Nigeria that when prices of commodities soared, it shouldn’t return to normalcy
Following infusion of galloping inflation infiltrated Nigeria economy causing daily hikes in prices of commodities in the market and services, and also, making costs of living outrageous. Experts and countless public opinionists have spoken for, and generally acceptably described the conditions that warranted the situation as largely due to: dollarisation of Nigeria economy, closures of borders, neo-liberal capitalism ideology, insecurity threats on a larger scale, and all these.
Recalling that after APC reins of leadership’s commenced 2015, many Nigerians who voluntarily mobilised against PDP led federal government under former president Goodluck Jonathan hoped that, good governance would be timely restored. To an average Nigerians similarly Africans, good governance means lower prices of commodities and services, job creations, youths and women empowerment. But over a decade ago, security quality forcefully come to the fore as genuine key points needed bequeathed mandatory focus upon for, other sectors of the economy to transform success. The issue on security have gone beyond common meaning centred around safety of people and properties to exclusively
covering sovereignty, agriculture, communication, financial, education, travelling, marketing and tourism, and so on.
Pursuant the leaders of the North Central and Abuja Youth Development Association NAYODA, have the association distanced from intended #EndBadGovernance protest scheduled between 1 to 10 days of August. They also ahoyed all youths across the North Central geopolitical zone and the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria to follow suits.
Comrade Segun wrote on NAYODA’S media handler that “The National leaders of NAYODA, call on all responsible youths within the North Central and Abuja not to join any protest that sources, objectives and faces behind its masks are opaque and unidentifiable”.
He said offering solutions to areas where government can improve its constitutional responsibility to the citizens, is better than sponsoring protest which in our experience is invariably pregnant with hidden and turbulent agenda. And other instances like hijacking the movement by the criminal elements, who would hide under cover of protests to steal, rob, vandalised public projects facilitated by tax payers funds.
“During the #EndSars protest those Nigerians allegedly massacred, are children of some people. Worst of all, no live lost can be revived by any humans. And going by intelligence garnering reported by some individuals and the men of security agencies, some external persons might hijack the protests from the planners which, can lead to civil unrest in the country.
“And should that happened, there is possibility of breakdown in law and order. Which may required intervention of the security apparatuses making use of arms as last resorts to quench outbreak of the rekindling splints. “
Although factually current food crisis is been experienced across the 6 geopolitical zones including the FCT, not minding comparative advantages enjoyed where each geopolitical zone has areas of agricultural cultivation and production. But rampaging insecurity rates have almost crippled farming activities and businesses so much so that, there is increment in population of farmers fleeing for safety with families from there ancestral lands to foreign lands. Benue is a good example, acronyms’ “Food Basket of the Nation” but, couldn’t maintained that status for aeon due to high rates of internally displaced persons which is one of the cogent products of insecurity.
Segun said further “Apart from total removal of fuel subsidy authorised by President Tinubu’s administration, the existing conditions that fervently engineered current insecurity ranges: closures of boarder, dollarisation of economy, free reins of prices of commodities and services and ineffective federal character principles, are all accumulated issues created by the preceding administrations.
“Nigerians must know that contractual agreement preceding administrations made with IMF, World Bank, and US, UN and other foreign exploiters outfits resulted in to gradual destructions of our economy. Before President Buhari closed Nigeria international borders, a bag of rice in the remotest part of the country goes for around N8,000 Naira but after closure of border and socialisation of Nigerians to return to farming, prices of food commodities began soaring. The idea is part of conditions mandated Nigeria by those satanic bodies meant to unleash pauperism and downtrodden on the people of Africa. If their suggestions of rejigging agricultural practices is purely for turning around fortunes of the poor’s, how come services of tractors, other farming machineries and provision of edible seedlings and cropping are not made easily available to the farmers for mechanisation merits? So that, they can grow for feeding and selling. This serves one cogent reason the policy is failing to yield expected results in stead, it encourages dependence on United Nations ‘Sustainable Underdevelopment Goals’ agenda for the developing countries so to say, coined as ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ which has not aided contribution towards industrialisation and promotion of self dependence”.
Recounting precarious state of security challenges across the continents of the World, recent farmers protests in France to derive common interests is a good illustration. He said that “Now is the time for Nigeria and Africa to do things differently. Nigeria government should entertained diplomatic dialogue as greatest assets inevitable when responding to the citizens complaints. This will helped make protests an outdated fashion and anachronistic tools to champion common interests”.
Segun beckoned on President Tinubu and all the president’s of African countries, to halt following directives of IMF, World Bank, US, Europe and UN. For from experience they have no proven antecedents in transformation of any country that can be used as precedents. Following the ideology of these bodies can never helped attainment of development but, rather threatened sovereignty of independent countries and implanted neo-colonialism agenda as a new scramble
“President Tinubu has really done well by leveraging on price of rice, increment in minimum wage and financial autonomy to the local governments. But I want to sincerely urged him to open borders, too. So that foodstuffs can find its ways to our markets, and ensured proceeds from fuel subsidy is used prudently to upgrade Nigeria refineries”.
Segun said “The enemies of Tinubu meandered the gap created by announcement of fuel subsidy removal, to hike prices of commodities wickedly. And also, to induce perceptions of Nigerians that Tinubu government is bad.
“Why they have their ways is simply because, President Tinubu is still respecting orders of those international agencies. If the President had opened borders, fixed prices of commodities knowing mentalities of African marketers not to want breakdown in prices once it soared even when taxes and fares are lowered, and make sure gains accrued from subsidy should be recirculated into engineering of the country’s refineries.
“May God help President Bola Ahmed Tinubu To Succeed Rebranding And Restructuring Nigeria”, Segun noted.
