The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally ratified its ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses across the country following the adoption of a motion moved by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan at the just-concluded 2026 PDP National Convention held in Abuja.

Delegates at the convention unanimously adopted the motion and its accompanying prayers presented by the Kogi Central lawmaker, paving the way for the validation of party structures in affected states and reinforcing the party’s internal reorganization ahead of future electoral engagements.

Moving the motion before thousands of party stakeholders, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasized the importance of unity, legality, and institutional stability within the party, noting that the ratification process was essential to consolidating the PDP’s democratic foundations.

“Today’s decision is not merely procedural; it is a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to internal democracy, party discipline, and respect for due process,” she said. “The PDP remains a party governed by rules, consultations, and the will of its members at all levels.”

The motion sought the convention’s approval to ratify congresses conducted in several states, following resolutions of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and recommendations of the National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC), in compliance with court judgments and the party’s constitutional provisions.

According to submissions presented on the convention floor, congresses earlier conducted in states including Abia, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Cross River, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, Ogun, Osun, Niger, Rivers, and the Federal Capital Territory were formally endorsed. The convention also approved repeat congresses organized in states such as Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara.

While presenting the prayer, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan urged delegates to view the exercise as a necessary step toward strengthening grassroots participation and restoring confidence among party faithful nationwide.

“Our strength as a political party lies in the credibility of our structures from the ward level upward. By ratifying these congresses, we are sending a clear message that the PDP is united, organized, and prepared for the democratic responsibilities ahead,” she stated.

Party leaders and delegates responded with overwhelming voice approval, signaling broad consensus across the various blocs represented at the convention.

The adoption of the motion is one of the defining moments of the convention, reflecting renewed cohesion within the party following months of consultations and reconciliatory engagements among stakeholders.

In her closing remarks, Senator Natasha -Uduaghan called on members to prioritize collective interest above individual ambitions.

“The task before us is bigger than any single person. Together, we must rebuild trust, deepen inclusion, and position the PDP as the credible alternative Nigerians are looking toward,” she added.

The successful ratification of the congresses is expected to stabilize party leadership structures nationwide and strengthen the PDP’s organizational readiness as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
