A group, Yagba Youths Liberty Movement (YYLM), has cautioned Hon. Leke Abejide, the current House of Representatives member from the constituency, to refrain from seeking a third term in the national assembly.
In a statement signed by Comrade Ekundayo Solomon Aloko, the group argued that such ambition goes against the agreed rotation system in the constituency, and a disadvantage to the younger generation of youths.
Comrade Aloko emphasized that they will refuse to compromise their future for the sake of one individual’s selfish ambitions.
While acknowledging the lawmaker’s past contributions, they urged him to step aside and create opportunities for younger leaders to emerge.
Comrade Ekundayo stressed the importance of recognizing when one’s time in office is over.
“While we appreciate Honorable Leke Abejide’s efforts, we believe it is time for him to pursue higher political roles for the benefit of Yagba Federal constituency. It is only fair that the Mopa Amuro local government has the chance to produce the next representative.
“Based on the available records, the Yagba West Local Government Area has held the representative seat for about 12 years. In contrast, the Yagba East Local Government Area is currently in their 12th year in office. Meanwhile, the people of Mopa Amuro have only had the seat for 4 years. This stark imbalance raises concerns about equality and justice in the region.
“We, the Yagba Youths Liberty Movement, are calling for a smooth transition of power and a level playing field for aspiring leaders. It is time for Honorable Leke Abejide to gracefully step aside and allow the next generation to take the reins,” he said.
The group said Leke Abejide would be doing himself a disservice by seeking a third term in office as a member of the House of Representatives for Yagba Federal Constituency.
“Leke Abejide had the opportunity to seek growth and development by running for the Senate, but instead, he is choosing to cling to his current position in the House of Representatives. His ambition for a third term is a clear display of selfishness and a lack of focus on the collective interests and growth of Yagba Federal Constituency.
“It is time for Leke Abejide to listen to the voices calling for change and step aside gracefully. It is clear that his time in office has come to an end, and he should not push his luck any further. It is time for him to bow out and make way for new leadership that will truly serve the people of Yagba and indeed Okun land.”
