A Nigerian agency, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has commenced training of 100 youth in the modern methods of plumbing and its application.
The five days training that is taking place at the Carlton Gate Xclusive Hotel in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo state commenced on Monday the 26th day of September 2022.
Participants for the training who are majorly plumbers were selected across the Ibadan North Federal constituency.
In the training that was attended by MAWA-Foundation as an independent civil society observer, beneficiaries were given made in Nigeria modern plumbing equipment. NASENI officials that unveiled the equipment, say it will enable them to provide quality and improved plumbing work that will compete in the modern time.
Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna, the NASENI Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive, at the opening ceremony, said the training is part of the Federal Government directive to build skills among youth and artisans that will create jobs and address unemployment.
Government officials at the training commended the Federal Government of Nigeria for an initiative that will provide skills and help improve the capacity of plumbers for effective service delivery and job creation.
The participants who spoke to MAWA-Foundation, said they are happy and optimistic that at the end of the training, they will gain modern knowledge and skill that will position them to provide plumbing service and compete globally.
They, however, added that the skills that will be gained from the training, and the distribution of plumbing modern tools, will help in expanding their business.
They pointed out that when that happens, they will earn more income, employ more persons and contribute to reducing unemployment which has since continued to be a major problem confronting the Nigerian State.
