Kogi State government on Friday commenced the issuance of deployment letters to the 7,426 unemployed graduates recently recruited into the N-Power programme of the Federal Government.
A Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who monitored the exercise in Kabba and Okene report that beneficiaries from 19 local government areas reported for the collection of their letters as early as 8am at the four designated centres.
The designated centres are the headquarters of the Kabba/Bunu, Okene, Dekina and Yagba East Local Government.
Beneficiaries from Ofu, Ankpa, Ogori-Magongo, Okehi, Adavi, Ijumu, Yagba West, Omala, Bassa, , Idah, Ajaokuta, Olamaboro, Igala-Mela and Ibaji were also asked to collect their deployment letters from the four centres,
The exercise will last two days while beneficiaries from Lokoja and Kogi Local Governments will be issued their letters on Aug. 6 .
The beneficiaries were mainly deployed to the education, agriculture and health sectors.
The state Coordinator of the N-Power programme, Hon. Ibrahim Adoga told NAN that the beneficiaries were deployed to the critical areas of need , saying that they will be exposed to trainings in their various places of primary deployment.
Adoga stated that the state now has 12,467 beneficiaries of the N-Power programme as 4, 445 were recruited in the first batch in 2016.
Some of the beneficiaries commended the Federal Government for initiating the scheme , describing it as a relief to them.
One of them, Mrs Rekiya Ahmadu who stated that she has remained unemployed since after completion of the national youth service in 2012 expressed her gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for not jettisoning the scheme in spite of economic meltdown.
Another beneficiary, Miss Deborah Eyika who stated that she had been in search of since 2014 expressed joy for being included in the N-Power project, describing as a stepping stone to something bigger.
Also speaking, Mr Itopa Aliyu commended the transparency in the process, saying that he got enlisted in the programme on merit and without connection.
“I am particularly happy that the programme has touched the life of an ordinary citizen like me and that less privileged persons in the grassroots areas,” he said.
He, however, appealed to the Federal Government to sustain the programme and look into the possibility of converting them to permanent workers.
