Hon. Ahmed Mohammed begins his first legislative assignment, on the floor of the house today by moving a motion, calling on the attention of the state government to the dilapidated roads in Ankpa LGA.
Below is the full motion.
A MOTION BY MEMBER REPRESENTING ANKPA 1 CONSTITUENCY SEEKING THE HOUSE INTERVENTION INTO THE AWARDED ANKPA TOWNSHIP ROAD BY THE IMMEDIATE PAST ADMINISTRATION OF CAPT IDRIS ICHALA WADA.

Mr. Speaker, permit me to use a minute to eulogise a wise and brilliant man, an accomplished and patriotic Nigerian, who died at a time his country needed him most.
Barr. James Eneojo Ocholi SAN is a man who place in profession, political party and simple life style would be hard to fill. An erudite lawyer, gentleman and seasoned politician.
His death is indeed a colossal loss to the nation, which he served devotedly to the end.
On behalf of myself and the good people of Ankpa 1 constituency, I commiserate with President Muhammadu Buhari, the Governor of Kogi state and family members of the late icon on this sad development.
May the almighty God grant their souls eternal rest.
Mr. Speaker, my honorable colleagues, I wish to draw the attention of this honourable house to the Ankpa township road which was awarded by the past administration over sudden abandonment by the contractors and relevant authorities responsible for its execution and site work.
This motion became pertinent following the adverse effects the abandonment has on the good people of Ankpa 1 constituency as well as the long term benefits it effect may unleash. These decadence among other things include;
(i) Poor road network which is tantamount to causing township accidents and eye sore.
(ii) Shortening of vehicular life span as a result of rough surface tars and pot holed nature occasioning stress on vehicles.
(iii) Creation of delay and hold up which shall be caused by unnecessary traffic jams occurring from effort of drivers and bikers to make easy rides.
(iv) Endangering of commuters to easy extortion and high tariff transports which shall be excused to poor road network by transport workers.
(v) Discouragement of neighbouring towns dwellers from making Ankpa their destination choice of business and leisures due to the state of the road.
The Ankpa township road is one major roads that connects other states. It is a gamut of issues, Transporters and commuters alike have their own pains also. So, it is for farmers, market women and business men and women who see the deplorable state of the road as the worst pain and suffering inflicted on them by the government not fixing the road after it became bad years ago.
Our roads need urgent attentions. The State government must adopt a holistic approach that underscores the need for a road system that guarantees safety, livability and a sense of community.
Having said all these unarguable facts at hand, it will be highly anti people to neglect the excesses of those charged for the above subject matter which is been sponsored by the hard earned money of tax payers.
At this juncture, I pray this honorable house to as a matter of urgency set up an a competent committee to look in to this matter and report to the house for necessary action as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Hon Ahmed Mohammed,
Member Representing Ankpa 1 Constituency,
Kogi State House of Assembly.
