Another set of medical doctors, fully sponsored by the immediate past Governor of Kogi state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, will be inducted into the medical profession tomorrow, March 13, 2025.

The journey of these doctors has not been without challenges. At one point, the Kogi State University (KSU) Medical School lost its accreditation, leaving many medical students stranded and uncertain about their future.

Bello took immediate action, setting up a committee to assess the best way forward.

Based on the committee’s recommendations, the government ensured the transfer of affected students to accredited medical schools across the country, preventing their dreams from being cut short. At the same time, Kogi State’s teaching hospital was upgraded to meet the necessary standards for accreditation.

Beyond facilitating their relocation, Bello went a step further by fully sponsoring the students throughout their medical education, covering tuition, accommodation, and other academic expenses. This sponsorship, which cost millions of naira per student, removed financial burdens and allowed them to focus entirely on their studies.

Now, as these doctors prepare to take the Hippocratic Oath, the impact of that investment is clear. They are ready to serve in the healthcare sector, bringing their knowledge and skills to improve medical services in Kogi State and beyond.
