Modupe Smith Foundation Empower Widows in Kogi

The Modupe Smith Foundation has presented cash, assorted food items and clothing to widows in Okene, Kogi state.

Canada-based philanthropist and founder of the Foundation, Mrs. Motunrayo Raji said she is disturbed by the level of poverty staring widows in the face present harsh economic realities in the country.

Speaking with newsmen in Okene at the weekend, a Director at the Foundation, Mrs. Falilat Yusuf said no fewer than 20 widows were empowered with a determination to move them out the shackles of abject poverty.

She explained that the Modupe Smith Foundation has special bias for widows and the less privileged in the society, adding that the main objectives of the foundation is to empower widows, provide scholarships for vulnerable children across the length and breath of Kogi state.

She bemoaned the socio-economic challenges faced by widows because of the loss of their loved ones, who are the breadwinners.

One of the beneficiaries, who spoke on behalf of the widows, Mrs Aina Sheidu commended the Modupe Smith Foundation for the cash gifts, food items, wrappers and other donations.

Mrs Aina Sheidu said the beneficiaries really appreciate the efforts of founder, noting that they will not disappoint the NGO and added that the gifts would go along way to alleviate their sufferings as the less privileged in the society,

She prayed that God will continue to assist the founder.
