Mixed Fortunes for Kogi Utd, Confluence Queens

Despite dominating proceeding in last weekend’s Nigeria National League away game to Prisons FC, ambitious Kogi United succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against the host as the Lokoja-based club sought its first away victory in the ongoing season.

The Wada Boys had pulverized the Prisons’ defence on end and had been rewarded in the 48th minute when Kogi United’s Maiyaki Ismail broke the host’s resistance.

But the Coach Fatai Osho-tutored players failed to hang on to the lead as Prisons scrambled in two goals late on to claim victory.

According to Media Officer of United, Wale Mustapha, Osho expressed disappointment with his wards, saying a win would have been secured after dominating play for long period during the encounter. “There is no excuse for our loss,” Mustapha quoted the coach as saying yesterday.

“This was a disappointing defeat for us, although we played far better we played better.

The officiating in the second half was quite questionable. But we don’t want to make excuses as we had our chance to kill off the game.” Osho, however, promised to made immediate amends. “We are yet to get it right at away games and I strongly believe we will soon,” the youthful gaffer said.

It was different stroke for the Confluence Queens of Lokoja who walloped visiting Taraba Queens of Lafia 4-0 at the Confluence City Stadium where Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada, was among the spectators that cheered the home team to victory. Spokesperson for the Queens, Tosin Ojo, also quoted Coach Suleiman Adamu as applauding the players’ fighting spirit.

“The result was a quick response to the poor result recorded the previous week at Oleh against Delta Queens and I am impressed that this game has put us in proper shape for the crucial next game with Rivers Angel,” Adamu said.

“It doesn’t matter that we will host the Angels in Lokoja as they are a very good side,” Adamu added, stressing, “It will be an opportunity for us to demonstrate that we are also in contention for the league title.”
