Minister Hails Work on Lokoja Inland Port

Minister of Transport Senator Idris Umar has expressed satisfaction with the work done at the on-going Lokoja In-Land River Port project.

Senator Idris stated this when he led the Management Team of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Wada, and  Managing Director of Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Hajiya Inna Ciroma on an inspection visit to the new construction site of the Lokoja In-land port recently.

The minister who said the project is 56 percent completed, urged the contractor, Interbau West Africa Limited to hasten its completion.

A statement by the Special Assistant (Media) to the minister, Innocent Ebirim said the construction of the Lokoja In- land Port and other in-land ports such as Onitsha and Baro would help the utilization of the dredged lower Niger channel in loading and discharge of cargoes in the areas.

The minister promised to look into the request for the variation of the bill of quantities by the contractor once the request reached his office.
