The Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, has said the federal government dam located in Omi, Yagba West LGA of Kogi State was underutilized.

Speaking during a visit to the area at the weekend, he urged the state government to tap from the ongoing Graduate Farmers Scheme by making use of the dam for water supply, fish farming and irrigated agriculture.

Adamu stated this at the weekend at the flag-off of the first Graduate Youth Empowerment Scheme on fish farming and crop production in Kogi State.
The Omi dam which was constructed by the federal government in the 1970s is meant primarily to serve the community and its environs as a source of wealth creation, water supply and irrigation.
Kogi State Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba, who represented the governor, said there could be no meaningful development or empowerment in food production without water. He called for the development of the irrigation system to support all-season farming in Nigeria.
The traditional ruler of the community, the Elegbe of Egbe, Oba Irukera, commended the government for choosing Kogi State for the pilot scheme. He added that the scheme would bring rapid development to the state by creating job opportunities.
