A former member of the House of Representatives, Dino Melaye, on Monday won the All Progressives Congress, APC, ticket to contest the Kogi West Senatorial election in 2015.
He polled 2,077 votes to beat Bidemi Adeyemi, who secured 326 votes.
The result was announced in Kabba by the Chairman, APC Primary Election Committee in Kogi State, Ebitei Francis, and Secretary, Bala Ajeje.
With his victory, Mr. Melaye, a civil rights activist, will now slug it out in the February 2015 senatorial elections with the incumbent, Smart Adeyemi, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Mr. Adeyemi, a former National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, had on Sunday defeated his challengers to clinch the ticket.
Mr. Melaye represented the Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu federal constituency of Kogi State in the House of Representatives on the platform of the PDP between 2007 and 2011.
