A group, GYB Media Support Group has carpeted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for waging war against the Kogi State Governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello.
Addressing newsmen in Lokoja, Sunday, the National Coordinator of the Group, Comrade Kayode Ajibola said the allegation of double registration against the Governor is “unfounded and unsubstantiated”.
According to the Group, “INEC acted in bad faith by rushing into conclusions without availing members of the public the facts at their disposal as to whether the Governor actually did double registration or not”.
Ajibola challenged the electoral umpire to come clean over the saga and apologize to the Governor for “dragging his name in the mud needlessly”.
He said INEC should put more facts out on the allegation or risk losing public confidence.
“For INEC to allege that the Governor did double registration, it ought to provide more facts. Where, when and by who?
“But INEC might be circumspect after it was proven that the earlier date given by the commission proved to be false as the Governor was not even in Africa on the said date.
“We urge INEC to allow politicians play their game without undue meddlesome interference on the part of the umpire. INEC should not be seen to be helping opponents fight their war”.
On the call by Senator Dino Melaye and Hon. Abiodun Faleke on the Governor to resign, Ajibola said the Senator was just being hypocritical.
“When Senator Dino Melaye was alleged not to have finished from ABU, why didn’t he resign? When the saga of the Harvard University and London School of Economics cropped up, why didn’t he resign?
“We should learn to play politics with a high sense of responsibility”.
The Group promised to continue to support the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello to make him a success for the benefit of Kogi State.
