An appeal has been made for well to do Nigerians to contribute their quota towards helping to provide assistance in meeting the health and wellbeing of the indigent and vulnerable in the society.
Chief Celestine Ugwagada made the appeal while speaking as the Chairman at a ceremony to mark the twenty fifth anniversary celebration of Maria Goreti Hospital Anyigba, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, reputed for offering free and subsidized health care services.
Chief Celestine commended the Chief Medical Director and founder of Maria Goretti Healthcare Foundation, Dr Lucky Orungbe for offering free and highly subsidized health care services to people of Anyigba and its environs. He commended Orungbe for his untiring efforts in the last twenty five years.
While the Chairman commended Maria Goretti Hospital for offering free qualitative health care delivery services to the vulnerable and indigent in the society, he described health as wealth and a commodity that is now becoming far and above the reach of the common man.
Chief Ugwagada noted with delight the outstanding performance by Maria Goreti hospital since its establishment, applauded the institution for not only providing hospital services to people at highly subsidized rate, but also serving as a referral centre to other hospitals both within and outside the area.
Chief Celestine called on other well to do individuals, public spirited organizations to complement the good gesture of Maria Goretti hospital, pointing out that the task to offer free and affordable healthcare services should not be left in the hands of the government alone.
Speaking on behalf of the Anyigba community, the Ogohi Onu Anyigba Alhaji Shaibu Okolo, in appreciation of the contributions of Maria Goretti hospital Anyigba to improved health care needs of people of the community, described the last twenty five years of the establishment of the health institution in the area as impactful, and rewarding.
In appreciation, the Ogohi Onu Anyigba announced the conferment of a chieftaincy title of the Ebene Attah Igala, as directed by the Attah Igala, Dr. Micheal Ameh Oboni, on the Chief Medical Director, Dr Lucky Orungbe for his sacrifice and contributions to the health needs of the people of Anyigba Community.
In his remarks at the occasion, the Chief Medical Director of Maria Goretti Hospital Anyigba, said the vision to establish the hospital twenty five years ago was borne out of the need to offer quality health services to the people at subsidized rates, and free for the indigent and vulnerable.
While expressing his appreciation to the Anyigba community for their cooperation and support, Dr. Lucky said the hospital has decided establish an NGO, Maria Goretti Foundation, with the aim of catering for the health needs of the indigent and vulnerable in the treatment of primary illness.
Major highlights of the twenty five years celebration of Maria Goretti was the presentation of a car to Miss Monica Isah who has served the hospital meritoriously for twenty three years, while other category of staff were also honoured for their outstanding contributions to the growth of the hospital.
Similarly, the Maria Goretti hospital healthcare foundation was launched with a call by the CMD of the hospital to public spirited individuals to support the project and to make contributions to the funds.
