Chairman of Interim Management Committee of Kogi State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Mr. Steven Aku has said that majority of teachers in the state possessed fake certificates.

Aku, who spoke during an interactive session with newsmen in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, also said that the activities of fake certificate syndicates had reached a wearisome level, prompting the board to embark on certificate verification exercise for teachers.

Apart from this Aku further attributed the problems of basic education in the state to bad attitude of teachers.

His words, “It is worrisome when someone who had never passed through the four walls of a tertiary institution forges a certificate to gain employment as a teacher, thereby affecting the quality and standard of basic education.

”We are set to visit all schools where they claimed to have got these certificates to ascertain the authenticity of their certificates. We urge those who regard themselves as teachers without genuine certificates to quietly leave the system before the law catches up with them,” he said.

Aku also decried the high rate of ghost teachers in the state, adding that, “Some people who worked in Abuja also draw salaries on monthly basis from the state government as teachers.
