The Caretaker Transition Committee Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, on Friday issued appointment letters to Hunters Group and community-based security outfits in Lokoja.
While addressing the gathering at the Lokoja Local Government Council Hall, the Chairman commended the gallantry and dedication of the hunters.
He noted that the recruitment was aimed at increasing community-based vigilance and overall security of the local government.
Comrade Adamu extended the appreciation of the Kogi State Governor, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo to the men for the sterling role and gallantry which led to the rescue of the abducted CUSTECH Students.
“I applaud you all for your sacrifices whenever we are distressed and call on you even when we are not paying, you respond to our calls. This appointment is a reward for your gallantry and commitment to securing our communities and ensuring that the vast Lokoja forest is not a haven or fertile ground for criminals and kidnappers,” he said.
The Chairman urged the group to see their recruitment as a call to service not only in their respective communities but in every part of the state when and where the need arises.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Olu Apata of Apata Ipatun, Oba (Dr) Fredrick D.O Balogun JP appreciated Governor Ododo and the Local Government Caretaker Chairman for the proactive steps in dealing with insecurity.
He thanked the Chairman for the trust in the traditional institutions and his inclusive approach to governance.
The Hunters Group who were largely nominated by their communities would be headed by the former Lokoja LGA Departmental Security Officer (DSO) and Special Adviser on Security to the Caretaker Transition Committee Chairman of Lokoja Local Government, Commander Mohammed Bala Yusuf.
Commander Bala assured the Chairman of their readiness to repay the confidence and trust repose in them.
