Kogi ADC Grassroot Frontiers (KAGF) has urged the electorate to defend their votes in the bye-election of Lokoja/Koto Karfe Federal Constituency slated for August 11th.
In a statement issued in Lokoja on Friday, President of the group, Atekojo Samson Usman said, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) having fielded Hon. Kassim Mohammed Mabo, a member of late Buba Jibril political family, the people of the affected federal constituency were more than willing to vote ADC.
He said that Governor Yahaya Bello led APC government in Kogi State has collapsed completely having failed man and God, hence, he would resort to self-help, insisting that the electorate should bravely protect their votes on Saturday.
According to Usman, the governor has perfected plans to invade polling units with thugs and votes buying, adding that those two unconventional approaches were the only alternatives available to him in the face of shame starring him on the face.
“We have uncovered plans through our network  by the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to use thugs especially from the neighbouring Nasarawa state to intimidate and harass electorate.
“It is discovered that the state government has prepared to lure voters with money to vote APC.   So we are asking the people to collect what belongs to them and forget about APC,”  he said.
They further urged electorate to collect their money, but vote ADC, noting that it was time for those cheated by their political leaders to pay back. In doing that, Usman said, it would show that the people owns the power of democracy.
He wondered how Kogi State Governor, who is morally bankrupt for not paying workers salaries for 22 months and who has no infrastructure to show for nearly three years would be fully prepared to buy votes.
The group called on the Inspector General of Police and other heads of Security agencies to caution their men to be wary of largesse from the governor that would make them take sides in the bye-election.
They also called on the INEC officials not to play to the gallery so as not to erode the people’s confidence ahead of 2019, saying that Saturday’s exercise in Kogi,  Bauchi,  Katsina and other places is an integrity test for INEC ahead of 2019.
“We are watching the INEC officials not to fall prey and play to the gallery.   Free and fair election in Kogi,  Bauchi and other places is a test of credibility of INEC ahead of 2019”, the statement noted.
