A political group, The Mabo Support Network has decried news going round that Hon. Muhammed Mabo Kassim has been bribed by Kogi State government to step down from the Lokoja-Kogi House of Representatives by-election.
In a press statement signed by Kassim Adamu, the group said the false information by some mischief makers is designed to dent the political image of Mabo Kassim.
“We want to make it crystal clear that Hon. Kassim Mabo is a man of proven integrity whose political antecedents attest to the fact that he can not be intimidated or bought over for any price whatsoever, going by his commendable track records of consistency, integrity, uprightness and loyalty, which simplify his resolute in getting things done right in his political sojourn.
“To set the record straight, it is on record that Alhaji Kassim Mabo is among the oldest politicians who have been in opposition since the inception of democracy in the state and the country at large despite all efforts by past PDP led governments of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris and Capt. Idris Wada to woo him. He blatantly refused every attempt to lure him from his political belief.
“More also, our principal, Alhaji Kassim Mabo is the pioneer chairman of the then APP, ANPP, CPC, and later on an interim chairman of the APC.
“If a man can not be bought during the aforementioned political period, one begin to wonder why some people choose to toe the path of character assassination, cheap blackmail as a means to achieving their political goals.
“We want to say without fear or favour that this act is condemnable, wicked, callous and very disheartening. We call on these mischief makers to desist from this act and toe the path of peace and true reconciliation for the overall interest of our great party, the APC,” he said.
He reiterated that Kassim Mabo is still in the race to fill the void left by the death of Rt. Hon. Buba Jibril.
He urged supporters to disregard the misleading information and remain steadfast in actualising the dream of consolidating and preserving the legacies of Late Buba Jibril.
