As I was about to place a pen in expressing my dissatisfaction towards Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) KSU chapter and the Governments (both past and present), I diligently mind my words in other not to escalate the all whole issues why we will continue to be derelict victims at home. I’m writing to the mentioned bodies to please ameliorate the boiling issues over non payment of salaries.
As a saying goes, “when two elephants are fighting the grand suffers the most”, so therefore we students are the ones suffering for what we are not the cause.
I will like to point out some pros and cons of ASUU, present and past governments.
The right of education will be lost only when lecturers, teachers are not been paid for the work done. According to one of Samora Machel (formal Mozambique president) speech.
He said and I quote, “Teachers are the ones deserves to have the highest salary pay among other professions, because it is a teacher who berates students that becomes Doctors, ambassadors, lawyers, chartered accountants, engineers and so on”
I’m relating this above quoted statements to what is happening all over the world. Nigeria to precise, this is Nigeria whereby you see lecturers embarking on strike action in a regular manner over non-payment of salaries. This has been happening in most states in Nigeria….(Kogi as a case study) How do we expect our lecturers to react on the issues over non payment of salaries. They are actually not to be blame for the action taken against the Government but come to think of this, Students are the ones suffering for the damages.
How are we to plan for our futures where the regular strike action has shortens some of the students dreams. Day by day ages are counting but we keep experiencing drawback in academic session.
It’s obvious ASUU and Government know the multiplier effects of strike on students academic performance but still nothing has been done toย curb this annual strike action in Kogi State varsity.
The government’s effects (both past and present). The current issues arising as the principal cause of this strike action is on the regards of the claimed devolvement of 2015 employees, Non payment of salaries and bloated tax rate.
To look this from general perspective, the act perpetrated by the immediate past Governor the person of Captain Idris Wada is nothing but an act of injustice. It is never done anywhere! He called for recruitment of staffs while another Governor has been elected but not yet sworn before the oath. Which they were tagged Political motivated employees alluded to the fact that an embargo has been placed for long and hasn’t been lifted on employment in the state subject to special permission of the state Government.
This above assertion has been the major reason why His Excellency Adoza Bello has insisted on terminating the 2015’s employees appointments which led to the reason why we students are home today.
I feel bad each times I discover there is no longer fundamental human right for students. The last protest held by NANS exposed me to some certain facts about the Government dissatisfaction towards students’ protest. Where Securities were all over Ganaja junction only to find and apprehend Students found protesting. Even for our right! Right of a student in Kogi state has been abused and getting into moribund.
This is what I have to say as a plea on the state Government and ASUU.
Please, ensure students are back to their various classes and arrive at possible resolution.
ASUU should please consider the fact that we have spent about 4months at home doing nothing while our ages are counting days.
And lastly Kogi State Government should please ensure that 2015 employees are paid before devolvement of their various offices. Also, the Government should please check into some faculties in KSU if lecturers are needed or not before carrying out the bold step.
Objectivity is what matters most not sentiment of a thing, our lecturers should please ensure we are called back to classes and welcome objectivity over sentiment.
We are tired of staying at home. We demand for uninterrupted education.
Aluta Continua
Struggle continues against interrupted education
Struggle continues against injustice
Struggle Continues against Non payment of workers salaries.
Long live Kogi state.
