LG Polls: Halima Kauna Promises Not To Abandon Constituents

Eggan ward councillorship aspirant in Lokoja Local Government Council, Hon. Halima Kauna Usman, has promised not to abandon the people if elected into office.

Kauna made the promised while speaking with newsmen in NUJ Press Centre, Lokoja.

Kauna who served as Special Adviser on Women Affairs to a former executive Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Council, Hon. Aliyu Baba Usman, said that leaders, especially at the grassroots, must always be sensitive to the needs of the people and strive to meet them.

According to her, the welfare of the people, provision of basic amenities and security remain the primary responsibility of any leader in government.

“People at the grassroots must be listened to because they determine our political fate. We must be attentive to the yearnings and demands of the people.

“What I am bringing to the table now is my experience. There are some things I did not have in 2010 which I have now. So I can do it in a better way,” she said.

Halima, the Kogi West coordinator of Kogi Women Empowerment Coalition (KWEC), said that no government can perform 100 per cent, but she assured that, along with her team, she will attain 70 to 80 percent performance in office.

The aspirant said if given the mandate to serve she will, in partnership with the council boss, bring development to the people of Eggan ward in particular and the local government in general. She promised to operate an open door policy to move the area forward.

She said that Eggan community will be given special priority because of the need to address the challenges facing the area in terms of roads.

Kauna called on the residents to be security conscious, reiterating that security remain everybody’s business.
