Ahead of local government poll in Kogi State, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced screening of aspirants into the positions of councillorship and chairmanship.
Over 133 and 400 aspirants respectively are battling to be candidates for 21 and 239 chairmanship and councillorship positions for the May 4 election.
According to the list made available from the PDP state secretariat, Kogi East Senatorial District had the highest of 52 chairmanship aspirants from nine local government areas, while the West Senatorial District had 50 chairmanship aspirants and Central Senatorial District had only 31 Chairmanship aspirants.
On the councillorship positions, Central has a total of 222 aspirants expected to participate in the screening exercise.
In order to make the exercise free and fair, the governor, Captain Idris Wada, has dissolved the interim management at the 21 council areas.
However, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) seems set for the election going by the arrangement on ground.
The state ACN chairman, Alhaji Haddy Ametuo, disclosed that his party was fully prepared for the council election.
He called on the state government to allow the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission to conduct free and fair election come May 4, council poll.
Ametuo admonished the chairman of the SIEC, Mr Abraham Adeniran, to ensure early release of election materials so as to allow the voting to commence on time.
