The god-father of Yagba East politics, Bashorun Jide Omokore has reportedly anoint Alhaji F.G. Ibrahim (a.k.a Asuri) as the preferred candidate for the May 2013 Chairmanship election in Yagba East Local Government. This, many believe is a major setback on the chances of the ex-Liaison Officer 1, Comrade Shola Adebola.

As the much awaited local government election in Kogi State approaches, exciting intrigues, deft political permutations and shenanigans are being employed by political actors across the state.

Omokore, according a reliable source, reached a compromise to support Asuri after consulting the incumbent Deputy Governor, Arc Yomi Awoniyi (from Mopa-Amuro LGA), Chief Owoyemi and Chief Sam Owa, both from Yagba West. This cabal reportedly decided on the choice of Late Olutimayin as Commissioner from Yagba East.

The choice of a less popular F.G. Ibrahim came as a rude shock to majority of Omokore’s political lieutenants in Yagba East. They are still hoping and praying that Omokore will have a change of heart.

The anointing of F.G. Ibrahim as Omokore’s choice as Chairman notwithstanding, Yagba East people are well known political radicals who can spring surprises when least expected.

It is yet to be confirmed if immediate past commissioner for Agric, Hon. T.J. Faniyi will drop his candidate, Hon. Ipinyemi to pave way for the god-father’s choice during primaries.
