Member, House of Representatives, Hon Leke Abejide, has congratulated Hon Tosin Olokun, the Caretaker Chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area on his appointment as the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Chairman for Kogi State.
In a statement on Wednesday, Hon. Abejide said the local government being the third tier of government requires a focused and ingenious individual to steer its affairs to be able to achieve the desired goals on delivery of dividends of democracy at the grassroots level.
Abejide said the emergence of Olokun as the new leader of ALGON in Kogi is clear evidence of new dawn for a visionary and purposely leadership that will help carve a niche for progress and development of the association.
He, however, advised the new ALGON chairman to work assiduously to ensure that growth, development, and wealth creation is engender in the council areas of the state.
While stating that the independence of the local government is important for revenue generation and control, he advised the care-taker chairmen to look inward and avoid over-dependence on monthly allocation from the federal government.
“As a legislator, I am ready to give all necessary support needed to make our local government areas in Yagba Federal Constituency to be more viable and business-driven.
“The essence of creating local governments as third tier of government is to bring government closer to the people at the grassroots and this is sacrosanct. I urge you to work to ensure that such is engendered in our local government areas,” he said.
The Reps member also enjoined all the care-taker chairmen to support Hon. Olokun while his tenure lasts.
