An Aspirant of Kogi State House of Assembly, Yagba East Constituency in 2019 election, Ogbeni David Oni-Sunday, has called on the residents of the state to take all the necessary precautions to stop the spread of Lassa Fever across the state.
Oni-Sunday told our correspondent in Lokoja on Thursday, that the general public should take proactive measures to clean their surroundings and drainages, store their food items in close containers and ensure that they were properly protected from rodents.
The aspirant also urged the people to make sure that they get rid of rats in their homes and surroundings, wash their hands after touching any unclean things, stressing that personal hygiene or any measure taken to get rid of rats would help in containing the disease.
Oni-Sunday, who is a Kogi Assembly aspirant under the All Progressive Congress (APC), Yagba East, advised the general public to always be safety conscious and quickly report any case of persistent fever in their domain to the nearest hospital.
He added that the state government has equally assured the general public that government was doing all her best to sensitise and educate the people in order to prevent further death from the deadly disease.
Oni-Sunday, however urged the people to embrace the policies and programmes of Gov. Yahaya Bello led Administration and support His Excellency to bring about the desire improvement in welfare and well being of the citizenry.
He also advised the youths in the state to be hard working, believe in themselves and avoid being manipulated or being used by some self-centered politicians who are having their children outside the country.
“It is time for us as youths in Yagba East, Kogi and the nation at large to take the ‘bull by the horn’ by indicating our interest by contesting for political office at all levels; the time to act is now”, Oni-Sunday advised.
It will be recalled that a 30-year-old medical doctor, Victor Ahmed, who was a staff of Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Lokoja, died of Lassa fever on Sunday at Irua General Hospital in Edo State.
