The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Kogi East Senatorial Zone recently held a significant zonal meeting in Idah, the party’s headquarters, marking the first such gathering in years. The event saw a remarkable turnout of members and supporters, underscoring the party’s revitalization efforts in the region.
During an emergency meeting at the Zonal Secretariat on Wednesday, Zonal Chairman Hon. Igagwu Idris emphasized the importance of unity and peace within the party, particularly at this critical juncture.
Engr. Musa Wada, the PDP gubernatorial flagbearer for the 2019 general elections, praised the impressive attendance, viewing it as a strong indicator of the party’s vitality in Kogi East.
Notable attendees included former governorship aspirants, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Idris and Barr. Kabir Mohammed Usman; Chief John Odawn; Hon. Sunday Shigaba; and the nine PDP divisional chairmen. The state chairman, Hon. Enemona Anyebe, along with other state executives from Kogi East, were also present, alongside candidates for the Dekina/Bassa Federal House of Representatives, Comrade Usman Okai Austin, and Okura State Assembly candidate, Hon. Godwin Meliga, as well as former House of Representatives aspirant, Engr. Ibrahim Ocheje.
The meeting attracted a diverse group of stakeholders from the nine local government areas in Kogi East, which Hon. Igagwu hailed as a vital step towards reinventing the party in the state.
In his remarks, Hon. Enemona Anyebe stressed the need for continued unity among party members, highlighting the challenges faced by the state under the current administration.
“Since the APC took over, the dividends of democracy have become a distant memory, and the welfare of the people has been neglected. The PDP stands alone in its commitment to improving the lives of citizens,” he asserted.
Hon. Igagwu also announced plans for ongoing engagement with party members across all levels, reinforcing the party’s structure and unity.
“Our gathering today is a testament to our solidarity. We must maintain this spirit of peace and unity,” he urged.
In his welcome address, the host chairman reiterated the zone’s commitment to delivering bloc votes in the upcoming 2027 elections.
“Kogi East has the polling units necessary to secure victory for our candidates. The stakeholders present today are pivotal in determining our electoral success,” he concluded.
