The Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS), Kogi State University chapter has warned that members of the rural communities are at higher risk of contaminating the viral lassa fever.
FECAMDS gave the warning during a sensitization campaign at Ajiyolo-Ajaji community in Dekina local government.
The LASSA fever campaign carried out in ajiyolo-ajaji is part of the association national health project on the knowledge, and prevalence of LASSA fever in Nigeria rural communities. The aim of the campaign was to sensitise the members of the community about the viral disease and the preventive measures that ought to be taken.

LASSA fever is an acute viral hemorrhagic illness transmitted to humans via contact with food or household items
contaminated with rodents urine or faeces. The members of the rural communities are at higher risk of contaminating the viral diseases.
During the campaign, the people of the community were enjoined to ensure strict environmental cleanliness and ensure that food stuff were always covered to avoid contact with rat that may carry the virus.
After addressing the members of the community at the community health care Center, we embarked on a house to house campaign with questionnaire. When ask if there have heard about LASSA fever, about 95% said no.
