The governorship candidate of Labour Party in last year’s governorship election in Kogi State, Dr. Philip Omeiza Salawu has distanced himself from the petition filed at the Election Petitions Tribunal by his party against the emergence of Alh. Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress.
In a letter dated 1st February, 2016 and addressed to the Secretary of the tribunal, Salawu affirmed that he was not a party to the petition, claiming it was the sole arrangement of the party.
The former Deputy Governor urged the party “takes the matter out of the tribunal for an amicable settlement”, saying he has decided to make his stance public, “in view of the current confusion in the public domain as to whether I am behind the said petition or not”.
Dr. Salawu hails from Kogi Central just as the Governor of the state and his decision may not be unconnected with attempts at ensuring unity among the Ebira political class on the governorship issue.
