As political contenders gear up to hit the ground running ahead of the 21st November 2015 governorship election in Kogi State, the media unit of the Prince Abubakar Audu Campaign Organization (PAACO) has called on the spokesmen and supporters of other gubernatorial aspirants in the State to eschew campaigns of calumny and engage in Issue-based campaigns.
The Deputy Director of Media and Publicity of the campaign organization, Mr. Odaudu Joel Minister made the appeal at a Press Conference yesterday in Lokoja the State Capital. Mr. Odaudu Minister opined that campaigns by party faithfuls and acolytes of all the gubernatorial aspirants on both the print and social media platforms should be focused on issues and not slander and discourtesies to avoid overheating the polity.
“We all have to concentrate and bend our energies towards selling our preferred candidates to the electorate. Let us not overheat the political terrain with casting of aspersions and firing of denigrating salvos at candidates other than ours. As we drum up support for our preferred candidates, we must steer clear of muckraking and campaign of character assassination. Spewing vituperations on one another and maligning one another’s candidates is not democratic building but democratic crushing” he said.
Mr. Odaudu Minister further stressed that Prince Abubakar Audu stands tall among all the guber aspirants vying to occupy Lugard House and expressed confidence that Audu will emerge victorious at the governorship polls come November given his monumental landmarks in virtually all sectors of the State ranging from housing, road construction, education, electricity, and healthcare services during the intervals he superintended over Kogi State as governor. According to Minister Audu’s gargantuan feat in Kogi State has remained unbeaten since his exit from Lugard House in 2003 till date.
