Inspector General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase has expressed the readiness of his officers and men for the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States.
Arase said he has perfected plans to deploy additional manpower for the elections which will hold in November and December respectively.
Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole said the action of Mr Arase would ensure crime – free election in both States.
“The Police leadership has also directed the deployment of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS to compliment the Safer Highway Patrol to ensure proper policing of the length and breadth of the nation’s highway”, she stated.
While briefing members of the Police Management Team in his office, the IGP noted that these measures have become imperative to ensure proper monitoring of activities leading to a hitch-fee election.
She said this is in addition to stepping up police visibility on the nation’s highways in the yuletide, and to systematically decapitate hoodlums taking advantage of the season to unleash terror on innocent Nigerians.
Also, in a bid to further guarantee the welfare of officers and men of the Force for quality service delivery to the public, the IGP has offered to sponsor talented children of serving and deceased police officers, both at primary and secondary school levels.
He has consequently established a scholarship fund in this regard.
The forms for the scholarship scheme are available at all Police children and secondary schools for collection by interested pupils and students of Police officers and men.
Kolawole said the scholarship scheme is is aimed at improving the standard of living of officers and men of the force.
