The governorship candidate of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, Enesi Ozigi has promised to ensure improved quality of education if given the mandate to govern the state from January 2016.
Addressing a support group in Okene, Tuesday, the business mogul said he has a blue print to rebound the education of the state in order to empower Kogi students to favourably compete with their counterparts anywhere around the world.
According to him, it has become imperative to embrace the use of Information and Communication Technology in the educational sector. He said every school in the state will have the benefit of an ICT Centre under his administration.
“We have been paying attention on the mundane without looking at the education of our children. School infrastructure are in shambles while teachers are owed salaries running into several months.
“I owe the current generation of students in Kogi the best education we can offer because our future as a state rests on the level we can attain educationally in the next twenty years. With what is on ground now, we have not started yet.
“I am not sure our government is aware that the University Matriculation Examinations and Post UTME are now conducted with the use of ICT. That they have failed to put these in schools is scandalous against a generation that must be equipped to compete.
“Our government will ensure that every secondary school in Kogi has an ICT centre for training. We will prepare Kogi students for any examination around the world. We owe them a legacy of educational excellence”.
Ozigi also promised to ensure prompt payment of teachers in the state as well as expose them to modern techniques of teaching, saying the return to the glory of the classrooms will ease out the pandemic examination malpractice that is prevalent in all the schools across the state.
He called on all lovers of quality education, excellent healthcare delivery and infrastructural development to vote PPA on November 21 in order to liberate the state from corruption and cluelessness.
