I want to start by saying that Kogi Youth can never be deceived again.
It is on record that prior to Prince Abubakar Audu’s outing in Kogi Politics, our people were mostly discriminated against in getting admissions into any of higher institutions of their choice since the criteria for giving admissions into those schools did not favour the people from other areas, the highest qualification one could easily get as a kogite was the senior secondary certificate (SSCE Result).
I can still recall during my tender age, I use to hear my father acknowledging some few families whose children were in the higher institutions. The number of graduates were very few and scanty. In fact as big as my village was, people already knew the number of graduates within it. In essence only the few elites had the wherewithal to train their children up to the university level.
Before the establishment of Kogi State University, so many sons and daughters of kogi origin had written JAMB, scored high but only to be denied of the admission as a result of certain catchment area policies.
Furthermore, after all these degrading, inhuman treatment and discrimination suffered by our people education wise, here come a man who was ordained by God to liberate his people.
In His first outing in 1991, Prince Abubakar Audu, despite his short time in office realized the fact that his people were far behind in western education as such, he established Kogi State Polytechnic that administration was cut short by the military intervention.
In his second coming in 1999 as the Executive Governor of the State, His Excellency, Prince Abubakar Audu did not waste time in taking a step further by establishing Kogi State University, Anyigba. He did not stop at that, he makes sure the tuition fee was affordable, the highest amount I remember paying as tuition fee in KSU was eleven thousand naira (N11, 000). He introduced bursary allowances for kogi indigenous. In fact, the allowance made it as if we were getting back the tuition fee we earlier paid. Today we cannot say the same thing; the story is different, under PDP led government in the State. Kogi State University today has one of the exorbitant tuition fee in the country, parents can no longer pay with ease, bursary allowances are not been paid as at when due.
Finally, Audu’s passion for education has changed completely the people’s notion about kogites in terms of education wise. Today, virtually, every family can boast of a graduate.
My brothers and sisters, please think about this, ignore their campaign of calumny against Audu and take the right decision.
Audu is the man.
