The governor of Kogi State, Idris Wada, on Friday called for the deployment of more security personnel in the state for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Mr. Wada, who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the governorship election, said security should be increased during the exercise in order to avoid loss of lives and property.
The governor noted that no life was worth losing because of political office, and that everything possible should be made to ensure the smooth conduct of the election.
He said it was on record that during his first tenure in office, his administration had dealt with the issue of political thugs in the state, saying the people of Kogi State now go about their normal businesses without fear.
Mr. Wada appealed to his opponents to showcase what they had achieved rather than resorting to violence.
He said in the last four years, he empowered many Kogi people, and said that as why they wanted him to continue.
He therefore urged the Inspector-General of Police to redeploy more personnel to protect voters during the election.
Mr. Wada was in Kano to witness the wedding ceremony of the son of former governor of Kogi State, Ibrahim Idris, with the daughter of the late governor of Kano State, Abubakar Rimi.
