Kogi people has been called upon to speak out against bad leadership at all levels of governance in the state.
In his 25th anniversary message to the good people of Kogi state, the National Chairman of Network for Change and Good Governance (NCGG), Comrade Ismaila Yusuf Atumeyi, challenged electorates to rise up against mis-representation and bad governance by elected officials.
“It is a fact that Kogi people are tired of the ‘caretaker’ Governor Yahaya Bello. There is much hunger and anger in the land as we speak. The serial expressions of anger against Bello from the people across the 21 LGAs in the state is unprecedented”, he said.
“We at the NCGG condemn in strong terms the stoning of the governor in Lokoja and Ankpa. We don’t subscribe to that. We advice that a more civilised approach be adopted next time. Peaceful mass street protests in more acceptable.
“Yahaya Bello has no plan for Kogi state. The much talked about New Direction Blueprint is a complete hogwash. He should resign honourably.
“We are calling of Kogi people to hold all elected officers accountable – the Governor, Senators, House of Representatives, House of Assembly members and Local government helmsmen. They are holding our mandates and are answerable to the electorates. When they were canvassing for votes they promised heaven and earth but after winning they create a huge gap between themselves and the electorates. This is wrong.
“We must voice out against non-performing representatives. They cannot continue to with this business as usual approach to politics. They make money from and through Kogi state but bring the money to Abuja to enjoy. Youth must rise up and challenge the status quo, not by stoning, but by mass protests.
“Kogi state number one problem is bad leadership. Kogi state is backward. We are not at par with other states created same day with Kogi state. Take a trip to Osun, Delta, Anambra to confirm this”
