A group in Kogi state, Kogi Good Governance promoter, KGGP, has appealed to striking workers in the state civil service to call off their three days industrial action in the interest of the development of the state.

Speaking yesterday in Lokoja, the leader of the group, Muktar Bajeh, noted that workers in the state are on the priority chat of the present administration.

According to him, it will be a disservice to the state for workers who have been paid between three to four months salary to embark on strike, saying that they can only get an improve welfare package through negotiation.

He said the principle of collective bargaining is hinged on give and take, advising the labour leaders to go back to the negotiation table by calling off the strike.

“I advice them to go back to the drawing board. Collective bargaining is based on give and take. No government can meet workers demand 100%  and I don’t expect labour to also expect 100%. So they must find a meeting point that is flexible and acceptable to both side

“Though I sympathize with workers on the hardship faced in the banks. I believe that this is a temporary measure and hoping that this will soon eased out” he said

The group commended the governor on the bold step taken to stamp out ghost workers from the system, nothing that this bad practice has retarded development in the state for too long.

They called on the people to be patience with the new government, observing that previous administration had actually bastardize the state.

According to them the positive steps take so far shows that the new government is focused, dynamic, pragmatic, transparent and determined to reverse the negative posture of the state.
